A Thursday Night Out With College Buddies At A Local Nightspot Leads To Hazardous And Abusive Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had achieved a reputation as a studious individual who rarely, if ever, "painted the town red" by drinking with her pals. She seemed passionate about excelling academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her a degree of financial stability.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into an outstanding program in philosophy. Her rationale underlying this decision was that this subject would be a good springboard for law school and would not be identical to the preponderance of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the kind of person who worked vigorously to finish what she started and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As it turns out, however, virtually all of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations were not associated with drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were finished and feeling proud of the fact that she had done a super job on her exams, because of this, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.

So Lois and several of her friends from school went to a local bar where they had a few drinks. As the evening advanced, Lois and her pals continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a wonderful time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.

After drinking around fifty-five minutes when Lois began to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, however, her pals promptly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they thought that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was attentive to the fact that she had narrowly escaped death due to an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was grateful to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the night before. Her Mother and Father were aware how hard she studied at college and how little she let herself socialize with her classmates. Nevertheless, they also realized that Lois needed to keep away from careless and irresponsible drinking.

Consequently, they suggested that in the future, whenever a drinking circumstance arises, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois agreed and promised her Mother and Father and her friends that she would never ever drink in an excessive and hazardous manner. In Lois's own words, "I never thought that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now realize that careless and irresponsible drinking is not for me. I give my word of honor that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. Stated more precisely, she quickly understood that she had made an error in judgment and decided that she would not make the same error again. Indeed, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of abusive and irresponsible drinking can end in death.
